Is California Among States Most Interested in Black Friday and Cyber Monday?

Occurring the Friday after Thanksgiving every year, Black Friday is a massive shopping day for Americans, a throwback to times when family and friends stormed shopping malls to find the best gifts for loved ones.

In modern days, thanks to the popularity of online shopping, Cyber Monday (Dec. 2 this year) has also become a great time to score even more deals. At BetCalifornia.com - where we keep you abreast of all momentum towards legalized California sports betting - we wanted to see what states are the most interested in Black Friday and Cyber Monday deals. We used Google Trends to rank states based on a combined interest score for “black friday,” “black friday deals,” “cyber monday,” and “cyber monday deals.”

Using SEMRush.com, we then found the search volume for the terms “Black Friday” and “Cyber Monday” in California to see which is more popular in the state. All searches were done between October 12, 2024 – November 12, 2024.

After conducting our research, the state of California just cracked the top 15 nationwide among those most interested in both Black Friday and Cyber Monday. The Golden State (No. 15 overall) came in just slightly behind Hawaii (No. 13) and Montana (No. 14) and a distant bit behind No. 11 Wyoming and No. 12 Ohio.

Why couldn't California crack the top 10? Maybe it's because the "Endless Summer" means the holidays somewhat sneak up on California residents? Or perhaps for the time being some are still dreaming of California betting apps to back their 49ers, Rams or maybe even the Chargers? Either way, Californians are still among those most interested in the upcoming deal days. But true to their nature, they're staying cool about it.

Interestingly, state residents strongly prefer Black Friday to Cyber Monday, as search volume was over five times more for Black Friday according to our research. Perhaps that speaks to the still decent amount of brick-and-mortar malls and shops across California (and because folks who are dependent on Cyber Monday ... might not do their research until the last minute).

Either way, make sure to get ahead of the game this holiday season and participate in Black Friday and/or Cyber Monday to find the perfect gift for that special someone. Wait too long and the deal may be gone!
