The start of the NFL free agency period is just two weeks away, and a flurry of activity is expected when it opens as veteran players either seek a new deal with their old team or land with a new franchise.
One of the more than 20 San Francisco 49ers to hit the market next month is cornerback Charvarius Ward. As we wait for Major League Baseball teams to break from Spring Training and start their regular season, BetCalifornia.com has developed odds for where Ward will end up this fall.

Lions In Play For Ward
Ward did not get drafted after playing college football at Middle Tennessee State. Instead, the Dallas Cowboys signed him as a free agent after the 2018 draft and traded him to the Kansas City Chiefs prior to the beginning of that season. He became a starter by his second season in KC, starting all 16 games and picking off two passes as the Chiefs won their first Super Bowl in a half century that season.
San Francisco signed him prior to the 2022 season, and Ward enjoyed his best season in 2023. He intercepted five passes and ran one back for a touchdown. In addition, he led the league with 23 passes defended en route to earning his first Pro Bowl appearance and was an Associated Press second team All Pro.
He played just 12 games this past season, and quarterbacks completed 61.5% of the passes thrown to receivers he covered. The 116.6 QB rating was his highest since his rookie year. He also suffered a deep personal loss with the death of his year-old daughter, telling reporters after the season that he suffered “a lot of trauma in California,” signaling a possibility he may sign elsewhere.
Ward also told reporters that he would be “the most motivated he’s ever been” heading into next season. NFL.com listed Ward as the 11th best free agent on the market this spring.
