One of the best goaltenders in the NHL is officially on the market. John Gibson of the Anaheim Ducks appears set to move on from the team that has employed him since he entered the league in 2013, with the veteran of 502 NHL games appearing receptive to a change of scenery.

The 31-year-old is currently signed to an eight-year deal that’s worth $51.2 million, running through the 2026-27 NHL league year, though that likely won’t be an issue for a Stanley Cup contender looking for the type of talent between the pipes that Gibson offers in spades.

John Gibson is back on the trade block this season. At BetCalifornia.com, where we await legal California sportsbooks, we developed odds projecting whether the Anaheim Ducks will trade the goaltender – and if so, where he will go.

Where Will John Gibson Go Next?

We give +100 odds that Gibson either stays in Orange County long term or winds up with an outside suitor. But there are also solid odds of the veteran goalie moving on ahead of Friday’s trade deadline, with the Edmonton Oilers being the most likely landing spot for the Pennsylvania native, at +200.

Throw in the Carolina Hurricanes at +500 and a pair of longshots in the Utah Hockey Club at +1800 and his hometown Pittsburgh Penguins at +2050 and you have the full rundown on which NHL teams we see having interest in Gibson. But, ahead of Friday’s deadline, there’s still a chance that an outside suitor steps in at the last minute to get a deal done.

Whichever team does pry Gibson from Anaheim’s grasp is getting a goalie with a career save percentage of .910 and a goals against average of 2.89. The 2015-16 Jennings Trophy winner and NHL All-Rookie team member likely needs a fresh start to achieve his maximum potential in goal going forward.

Luckily for Gibson, Edmonton would present just that type of opportunity. The defending Western Conference are second in the Pacific Division with 74 points, in comfortable position to return to the postseason after coming within a victory of snapping Canada’s 31-year championship drought against the champion Florida Panthers.

We’ll keep looking for developments to see if there’s any progress toward California sports betting apps becoming a reality.
