For the fifth annual year, November 15th is National Botox Day across America. As a way of commemorating the occasion, BetCalifornia.com decided to see how the Golden State’s interest in plastic surgery compares to the rest of the country. Believe it or not, the home of Hollywood is not the most plastic surgery-obsessed state in America.
It is, however, the second most.
We took a break from California sports betting updates to determine where California’s interest in medical cosmetic treatments ranked. We used Google Trends to find the relative search volume for popular plastic surgeries over 12 months beginning on November 8th, 2022. As part of our research, we analyzed the following search terms: “botox”, “rhinoplasty,” “liposuction,” “lip fillers,” “abdominoplasty,” and “breast augmentation.” Based on the popularity of these terms in California, relative to the rest of America, we found Californians to be the second most plastic surgery-obsessed population in the nation.

Dissecting the Data
According to our data, the state most obsessed with plastic surgery is Florida, with Utah, Nevada, and Arizona rounding out the top five behind California. Meanwhile, Vermont is the least interested, followed by Maine, Wisconsin, Iowa, and Wyoming.
Amongst the specific treatments we considered for this study, Californians googled Botox most often. The injections are intended to reduce the appearance of wrinkles in the face, most often crow’s feet around the eye or furrow lines in the brow. The treatment works by blocking nerve signals in the area of the injection.
Rhinoplasty — or “a nose job,” as it’s often known — is the second most searched-for plastic surgery in California. Followed by breast augmentation (or breast implants), abdominoplasty (“tummy tuck”), and then lastly, lip fillers.
While it’s well-known that California, and especially Los Angeles, has been more welcoming of plastic surgery than other states, across the country medical cosmetic treatments have become far more accepted in recent times. According to a 2023 poll by the online plastic surgery resource site “RealSelf,” almost one in four Americans has had some form of cosmetic treatment.
